Drag force in a string model dual to large-N QCD
We compute the drag force exerted on a quark and a di-quark systems in a
background dual to large-N QCD at finite temperature. We find that appears a
drag force in the former setup with flow of energy proportional to the mass of
the quark while in the latter there is no dragging as in other studies. We also

Ecogeographical Variation in Skull Shape of South-American Canids: Abiotic or Biotic Processes?
Species morphological changes can be mutually influenced by environmental or biotic factors, such as competition. South American canids represent a quite recent radiation of taxa that evolved forms very disparate in phenotype, ecology and behaviour. Today, in the central part of South America there is one dominant large species (the maned wolf, Chrysocyon brachyurus) that directly influence sympatric smaller taxa via interspecific killing. Further south, three species of similar sized foxes (Lycalopex spp.) share the same habitats. Such unique combination of taxa and geographic distribution makes South American dogs an ideal group to test for the simultaneous impact of climate and competition on phenotypic variation. Using geometric morphometrics, we quantified skull size and shape of 431 specimens belonging to the eight extant South American canid species: Atelocynus microtis, Cerdocyon thous, Ch. brachyurus, Lycalopex culpaeus, L. griseus, L. gymnocercus, L. vetulus and Speothos venaticus. South American canids are significantly different in both skull size and shape. The hypercarnivorous bush dog is mostly distinct in shape from all the other taxa while a degree of overlap in shape—but not size—occurs between species of the genus Lycalopex. Both climate and competition impacts interspecific morphological variation. We identified climatic adaptations as the main driving force of diversification for the South American canids. Competition has a lower degree of impact on their skull morphology although it might have played a role in the past, when canid community was richer in morphotypes
New Supergravity Backgrounds Dual to N=1 SQCD-like Theories with N_f=2N_c
We present new supergravity backgrounds generated by N_c D5-branes, wrapping
the S^2 of the resolved conifold, in the presence of N_f = 2 N_c smeared flavor
D5-branes. The smearing allows us to take their backreaction on the geometry
into account. We discuss the consistency, stability, and supersymmetry of these
types of setups. We find near horizon geometries that we expect to be
supergravity duals of SQCD-like theories with N_f= 2N_c. From these backgrounds
we numerically extract rectangular Wilson loops and beta functions of the dual

No-Drag String Configurations for Steadily Moving Quark-Antiquark Pairs in a Thermal Bath
We investigate the behavior of stationary string configurations on a
five-dimensional AdS black hole background which correspond to quark-antiquark
pairs steadily moving in an N=4 super Yang-Mills thermal bath. There are many
branches of solutions, depending on the quark velocity and separation as well

Estrogen Receptor-α Populations Change with Age in Commercial Laying Hens
Older hens in production lay larger but fewer eggs than younger birds, and the incidence of soft and broken shells is greater in older hens than younger. These changes are attributable at least in part to changing hormone profiles and diminished ability of the hen to transport calcium at the duodenum. In further exploration of this relationship, a study was conducted with three ages of Hy-Line W-36 birds: prelay pullets (PL; 19 wk, 0% production), peak-production hens (PP; 29 wk, ∼93% production), and late-stage hens (LS; 71 wk, ∼80% production). Hens from the PP and LS groups were palpated for presence of an egg in the shell gland; hens were then euthanized and tissues (kidney, shell gland, hypothalamus) were removed for quantification of estrogen receptor- α (ERα) populations via immunocytochemical and Western blot analyses. Localization of ERα by immunostaining in the shell gland showed differences among age groups; however, no differences were noted in localization of ERα between age groups in the kidney and hypothalamus. In both the kidney and the shell gland there was a decrease in the amount of ERα, as detected by immunoblotting, in the LS hens compared to PL and PP birds (P \u3c 0.05). The results suggest that failure of calcium regulating mechanisms with age may be mediated at least in part through the reduced populations of estrogen receptors in certain critical tissues
The Energy of a Moving Quark-Antiquark Pair in an N=4 SYM Plasma
We make use of the AdS/CFT correspondence to determine the energy of an
external quark-antiquark pair that moves through strongly-coupled thermal N=4
super-Yang-Mills plasma, both in the rest frame of the plasma and in the rest
frame of the pair. It is found that the pair feels no drag force, has an energy
that reproduces the expected 1/L (or gamma/L) behavior at small quark-antiquark
separations, and becomes unbound beyond a certain screening length whose
velocity-dependence we determine. We discuss the relation between the
high-velocity limit of our results and the lightlike Wilson loop proposed

Drag force in SYM plasma with B field from AdS/CFT
We investigate drag force in a thermal plasma of N=4 super Yang-Mills theory
via both fundamental and Dirichlet strings under the influence of non-zero NSNS
-field background. In the description of AdS/CFT correspondence the endpoint
of these strings correspondes to an external monopole or quark moving with a
constant electromagnetic field. We demonstrate how the configuration of string

TASA DE MULTIPLICACIÓN DE DOS VARIEDADES DE PIÑA (Ananas comosus L. MERRILL): CAYENA LISA Y GOLDEN EWEET, UTILIZANDO MEDIOS SÓLIDO Y LÍQUIDO EN CULTIVO "IN VITRO"
En el Laboratorio de Biotecnología del Instituto Agronómico Nacional (IAN), ubicado en la Ciudad de Caacupé, Departamento de Cordillera, Paraguay, entre los meses de Abril del año 2006 y Febrero del 2007, se realizó un experimento con el objetivo de evaluar la tasa de multiplicación de dos variedades de piña, Cayena Lisa y Golden Sweet, a través del cultivo «in vitro» de meristemas que fueron sembradas en medios sólido y liquido de Murashige & Skoog 1962, (MS), suplementado con vitaminas de Heinz & Mee 1969, al primer medio se adiciono agar, y el líquido fue puesto en agitación a 50 rpm. Fue posible estudiar los efectos de diferentes combinaciones de Bencil Amino Purina (BAP) y Acido Naftaleno Acético (ANA), en la fase de multiplicación de micropropagación directa, para ello se aplicaron tres tratamientos hormonales: sin regulador de crecimiento; 1 mg/l de BAP + 1 mg/l ANA y 2 mg/l de BAP + 1 mg/l de ANA. El diseño estadístico fue el de Bloques Completos el Azar en Parcelas y Sub-parcelas Divididas, con 3 repeticiones. A las ocho semanas fue evaluado el número de brotes por explante, observándose que fue superior al usar 1 mg/l de BAP + 1 mg/l de ANA en estado físico liquido en agitación, para la variedad Cayena Lisa (134) y Golden Sweet (78). En cuanto al tratamiento en medio sólido, en las concentraciones de 2 mg/l BAP y 1 mg/l de ANA, se contabilizaron 19 y 7 brotes por explante para Cayena Lisa y Golden Sweet respectivamente
Deep inelastic scattering off a N=4 SYM plasma at strong coupling
By using the AdS/CFT correspondence we study the deep inelastic scattering of
an R-current off a N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills (SYM) plasma at finite
temperature and strong coupling. Within the supergravity approximation valid
when the number of colors is large, we compute the structure functions by
solving Maxwell equations in the space-time geometry of the AdS_5 black
three-brane. We find a rather sharp transition between a low energy regime
where the scattering is weak and quasi-elastic, and a high-energy regime where
the current is completely absorbed. The critical energy for this transition
determines the plasma saturation momentum in terms of its temperature T and the
Bjorken x variable: Q_s=T/x. These results suggest a partonic picture for the
plasma where all the partons have transverse momenta below the saturation
momentum and occupation numbers of order one.Comment: Version accepted for publication in JHEP: more references added; some
